Amelia

by Carol Anderson

mystery on a dark stage
Amelia's lithe, androgynous body
slithering through Macbeth
ignited my teenage imagination

her image hovers
at the edge of vision
a sinister spirit
spine whipping, lizard/dragon/wraith
in a mythic nightmare

finding a breath of flame
in the inspiration of deep gesture
the possibility of a way of moving in the world
urged me to a quest
Amelia's wild dance of possession
burning still
